What about Buddy Dean and his teen dance show on 13? He had a popular show for awhile but was not able to integrate the show and it failed. How much of that failure was due to his attitude and how much to the station's policy. I was not in Baltimore toward the end and unaware of local attitudes about integration. But I enjoyed it as a young white teen in 1960-1961.
ReplyDeleteI remember that exact TV booklet in the Sunday American with Miss Rhea and Sunshine on the cover. Stu Kerr did a lot of different characters/shows at various times on Channel 2 - The Janitor (late night), The Early Riser (early morning), host of Dialing For Dollars, Bozo The Clown, Professor Kool, among other characters. Royal Parker was another personality who did different character roles such as P.W. Doodle. I remember when WAAM became WJZ under Westinghouse Broadcasting. I would watch Miss Nancy's Romper Room when I'd be home sick from school. Lots of memories on this page since I was born in Baltimore back in 1950.
